Discovering Mati City, Davao Oriental

It is my 2nd time to visit this place. Mati City is located in Davao Oriental which is 3 to 4 hours away from Davao City proper. Since we are a big group with kids, we opted to rent a van with ABC Van Rentals Davao. Rate is Php 8,500 inclusive of fuel for Drop-off and Pick-up (Davao Airport to Dahican / Dahican to Davao City).

Day 1

We arrived in Davao early morning and headed straight to Dahican Beach in Mati. On the way to Mati, make a stop at Badas Point in Barangay Dawan to see the view of the ‘Sleeping Dinosaur’.

The “Sleeping Dinosaur”

We stayed in Tropical Kanakbai which is a very nice place. It is a family-owned resthouse but they also accept guests to rent their place.

House/Room Rates:
Tropical Habagat House

We got the Tropical Habagat House. It includes 2 air-conditioned rooms, use of a fully-equipped kitchen (stove, microwave, refrigerator, utensils), and a dining area. If you don’t have a car with you, make sure to buy all the things you need such as food, drinks, etc. Dahican Beach is around 10 minutes away from the city or market. You may ask the house helps to contact a tricycle if you need one.

Day 2

Ultralight Flying

Aside from the beach, this was what made me really excited for this trip! Mindanao Flying Saga Club operates in a deserted airport in Mati City and is also located in Brgy. Dahican, 10 to 15 minutes away from the beach. We were picked up from Kanakbai at 6:30am. According to Mr. Iñaki, the best time to fly is in the early morning. There are 2 options when it comes to the plane type. Rates below are for the 15-minute trial instructional flight.

Quicksilver (Fabric ULs) is an open-air cockpit aircraft | Php 1,600
Foxbat (Composite LSAs) is a closed aircraft | Php 1,800

Watch the video below for the highlights! 🙂

A Go Pro can be rented at Php200.00/ride. This will be mounted under the wing of the plane and would record your whole 15-minute ride. It would be better if you have you an SD card with you so that you have the video straight from the cam. They also allow bringing of your own camera and phone. Just make sure that you hold on to it tightly while up in the air. 🙂

Contact details: Mr. Iñaki Sievert (General Manager) – 0917 3070670. He was very pleasant, kind, and accommodating. He even accompanied us to stores so we can buy some stuff and food.

Go get high and touch the sky! The view from above is breathtaking.. It’s worth it!!! 😉

Dahican Beach

When we got back from flying, we just stayed  at the beach for the rest of the day. It is amazing.. the serenity, the white sand, clear blue waters.. for me, it’s like a virgin Boracay! Less the crowd and parties.. 🙂 Plus you can also enjoy surfing (seasonal) and skimboarding. You can rent a board and get a lesson for a fee.

Day 3

We still spent the morning on the beach, can’t get enough it! 🙂 Then we headed back to Davao City.
